How is playground surfacing specified for a children's play area?

We specify playground surfacing against the fall height of the equipment it sits under, and confirm the rating for your installation before work begins. Ask any installer what fall height the system is rated to and what build-up achieves it.

How does playground grass hold up under heavy foot traffic?

Playground grass designed for high-traffic applications uses durable synthetic fibers and a reinforced backing that resist matting and wear over time. Even with frequent community events and active use, the turf maintains its appearance and performance with minimal upkeep.

What maintenance does a playground grass installation require?

Artificial playground grass requires very little maintenance compared to natural turf. Routine care typically includes periodic brushing to keep fibers upright, removing debris, and rinsing the surface as needed. There is no mowing, fertilizing, or irrigation required.

How does artificial playground turf handle rain and drainage?

Quality playground turf systems are installed over a compacted base designed for efficient drainage. Water passes through perforations in the turf backing and into the sub-base, allowing the surface to drain quickly after rain and remain usable without standing water or mud.

What is the typical lifespan of a playground grass installation?

With proper installation and routine maintenance, playground grass installations typically last 15 to 20 years or more. The longevity depends on factors such as the quality of the product selected, the volume of use, and how consistently basic maintenance practices are followed.

Batesville Event Lawn Playground Turf Installation

Project Overview

Batesville Event Lawn needed 1,515 square feet of playground grass installed to support community events and everyday recreation. The site had the usual natural-grass problem in a high-traffic event space: it looked fine in June and was mud by October.

Our Approach

Site prep started with grading and base compaction to move water off the surface and keep the finish level over years of use. We selected an artificial grass for playgrounds product with the safety numbers events organizers care about, then aligned and secured seams to eliminate trip hazards on a space that will see kids running across it during community programming. For more completed work, our project photo gallery shows similar installs across Indiana.

Key Highlights

The finished 1,515 square feet gives Batesville a lawn that requires no mowing, watering, or reseeding, which for a public event space translates into predictable maintenance costs and no muddy Saturdays after a Friday-night rain. Drainage was designed in from the base up, so the surface returns to usable quickly. The Walnut Street corridor picks up a polished outdoor space that will hold up for years.
